This kind of weather just seem to call for
A POT OF HOMEMADE SOUP
Here's one of my favorite
TRY IT - YOU'LL LIKE IT
U. S. SENATE BEAN SOUP
1 lb. dried Great Northern Beans. 3 medium onions, chopped.
1 meaty ham bone or 2 ham hocks. 3 celery ribs, chopped.
1/4 cup fresh parsley. 3 garlic cloves, minced.
1 cup mashed potatoes or 1/3 cup instant potato flakes.
salt and pepper to taste. parsley or chives to garnish
Place beans is 6 cups water - bring to boil and boil for
2 minutes - Remove from heat and soak for 1 hour -
Drain and rinse beans - In a large kettle; place beans,
ham bone and 3 quarts of water - Bring to a boil -
Reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours -
Add onion, garlic, celery, parsley, potatoes,
salt and pepper - simmer for 1 hour more.
Remove meat from bones and return to kettle -
Heat through - Garnish with parsley or chives
ENJOY

mmmm, grandma, that sounds so good! gonna have to try that one. we also thought it was a soup day, but it was just tomato soup, not nearly as good as yours. thanks for sharing!
Your blog is looking great! We have some soup days too, but over here the soup of the day is zurek---a sour rye soup. I have no idea what the recipe is, we just open a carton or a package. It's actually pretty tastey.
definately going to give that one a try this winter....i'm not ready for winter ;-(
